1 Elmira, NY Elmira, NY Full-time Full-time $20 - $23 an hour $20 - $23 an hour 4 days ago 4 days ago 4 days ago Reporting to the Controller and serving as an integral member of the finance team, this position is responsible for working with multiple members of the finance team, as well as across organization, to ensure expenditures are accurate.
The Finance Specialist responsibilities include standard AP process as well as Grant preparation duties, working with current AP specialist and Grant Analyst staff.
Essential Job Functions Accounts Payable Specialist functions:
Process a high volume of supplier invoices accurately and promptly.
Maintain a sense of urgency within processing to ensure timely vendor payment.
Accurately charge expenses to accounts and project codes.
Verify vendor accounts, pay vendors, and resolve purchase order, invoice, or payment discrepancies.
Prepare and import expense breakdowns, such as payroll, benefits, etc.
Perform record keeping and prepare financial reports.
Coordinate and perform check run process.
Update weekly cash flow forecast.
Supports AP Specialist with other tasks, as needed.
Assist with audit preparation.
Grant Analyst functions:
Propose and preparation of journal entries, communication to necessary departments such as HR.
Review and approval PaperSave documentation.
Review and approve employee change forms.
Prepare reimbursement billing on various state and federal grants, maintaining a clear audit trail.
Prepare monthly deficit funding invoicing and maintain communication with funders regarding increases or additions to state aide funding.
Communication within CASA, as well as funders to ensure great working relationships.
Supports Controller with other tasks, as needed.
Assist with audit preparation.
Assist Grant Analyst with other tasks, as needed.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Excellent computer skills including the ability to effectively perform accounting functions using accounting software.
This position requires a proactive attitude, ability to work effectively in both a team and independent situations, excellent administration and organization skills and a very strong attention to detail.
Previous high volume AP experience desired.
Grant preparation experience desired.
Ability to apply accounting principles within an established nonprofit accounting system to maintain accurate records of accounts; prepare periodic financial and administrative reports; and resolve accounting problems and questions.
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills including the ability to effectively present and respond to queries from management, clients, and regulatory bodies.
Excellent reasoning analytical and abstract reasoning skills including the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, and proportions.

Qualifications Education and
Experience:
A minimum of an associate degree in an accounting or related field accompanied with some experience in non-profit accounting a plus; A valid NYS driver's license is a requirement for this position.
