The Same Day Services Patient Care Technician is a caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for Same Day Services patients under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Same Day Services consists of the Preadmission Center and Same Day Surgery.
The SDS-PCT provides care to the Same Day Services patient via coordinating reservations/scheduling, teaching, data collection and documentation, providing direct patient care assistance to the RN and MD, phlebotomy, and EKG.
This is done in collaboration with other health care team members.
DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
1.
Is responsible for interviewing patient, collecting and documenting basic patient information/data, filling out necessary forms and records, and witnessing consents in a thorough, concise, timely manner in accordance with Division of Nursing Standards, documentation guidelines and age of patient.
2.
Provides patient education as delineated (i.
e.
health care directives) and documents in accordance with Division of Nursing Standards, documentation guidelines and age of patient.
3.
Assists the RN in providing direct patient care pre-admission, pre-procedure, and post-procedure as delegated.
Observes patient and reports any changes in patient condition immediately to the RN.
4.
Performs tasks on the SDS-PCT Orientation and Skills Checklist adequately.
5.
Calmly carries out instructions in an emergency situation.
6.
Demonstrates awareness of Patient Rights; treats patients/families with respect, dignity, and kindness.
7.
Keeps all patient information confidential.
8.
Consistently demonstrates the ability to adapt to change in workload/assignments.
9.
Continually uses time to maximize full potential.
Sets priorities.
10.
Takes initiative to make improvements and resolve issues.
Reports any irregularities in routine that he/she feels need more evaluation and identification for problem solving to the Charge Nurse or Unit Director.

Seeks validation of knowledge base, skill level, and decision-making, as necessary, and seeks guidance in areas of question.
Seeks assistance when performing an unfamiliar procedure.
Belongs to professional organization(s) and obtains certification in field as appropriate.
12.
Participates in teaching others; serves as preceptor for newly hired SDS-PCT.
13.
Participates in development and attainment of Same Day Services goals.
Demonstrates awareness of need for self-growth by assessing strengths and weaknesses and establishing written goals.
14.
Follows the attendance and punctuality policies of the Division of Nursing.
Provides timely notification for absence or tardiness.
15.
Assumes responsibility to attend mandatory inservices of the Arnot Health, Division of Nursing, and Unit.
16.
Assumes responsibility for information shared in staff meetings.
17.
Dresses professionally and appropriately for the position; wears name tag visibly.
18.
Functions with an awareness of risk management and safety issues and reports appropriately.
19.
Follows Arnot Health and Division of Nursing policy and procedure regarding infection control.
20.
Participates in QI activities.

Is responsible for attending all mandatory annual educational programs as required by the position.

EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent.
CPR certification.
EXPERIENCE :
Previous nurses aid or clinical assistant experience preferred.
CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) REQUIREMENTS:
Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire date.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Some physical effort required.
Light to moderately heavy objects lifted; moderate reaching and stooping.
Flow of work intermittent requiring to be on feet.
EXPOSURE CATEGORY:
Category I.
Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissue.
