Pediatric Congenital Heart Disease Cardiac Sonographer- Non-Invasive Cardiology

MAIN FUNCTIONA Pediatric/Adult CHD Cardiac Sonographer is a qualified professional with both academic and clinical experience who provides patient care services using diagnostic ultrasound specialized in the area of Pediatric Cardiology.
The scope of practice includes performing pediatric echocardiograms for which the individual has demonstrated competency through education, clinical experience, and certification.
Pediatric Cardiac Sonographers report to the cardiac services manager, or their designees, and work closely with the pediatric cardiologist.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Perform regularly scheduled outpatient pediatric/adult CHD echocardiograms as well as inpatients services covering pediatrics, regular nursery, and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) within the Arnot-Health and AOMC May, if also registered as an adult cardiac sonographer, provide assistance in adult echo lab when necessary as long as pediatric responsibilities will accommodate any such need.

Responsible for on-call duty on a rotating basis, including facility established holidays.
Responsible for reporting urgent and critical findings to pediatric cardiologist immediately.
Responsible for utilizing current digital archiving (PACS) and reporting system Responsible for utilizing current charge/billing and documentation system.
Communicate effectively with pediatric cardiology staff, adult echo lab staff, department staff, patients/family, and health care team.
Assume responsibility for the safety, mental, and physical comfort of patients in your care.
Adhere to facility established aseptic technique guidelines whether performing exam in the echo lab, bedside, or entering an isolation area.
Perform normal daily functioning inspection of department equipment and report issues to designee immediately.
Share responsibility in the training and orientation of additional sonographers, students, or department staff.
Help to inform, ensure, and maintain adequate inventory of supplies for daily use.
Responsible for all annual mandatory educational programs required by position.
Understands and demonstrates the importance of satisfying the needs of the customer/patient by interacting with them in a friendly and caring way, being attentive to the customer's needs, both psychologically and physically, and by taking the initiative to maintain communication with the customer in order to provide a secure and pleasant experience within the Arnot-Health System.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
Active certification in Pediatric Echocardiography as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through ARDMS, Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through CCI or another approved equivalent.
Must maintain working knowledge and educational requirements for active certificationGraduate from an approved program desirable, but not requiredEXPERIENCEMinimum one year full time pediatric echocardiography and clinical experience required.
