Licensed Practical Nurse

The LPN serves as a PACT LPN with duties to include Phlebotomy/ Lab Services and Telehealth Services for the Off-Site Ambulatory Clinics. The LPN must be proficient in PACT, phlebotomy, telehealth and ability to use VISTA and CPRS for checking orders, and developing the accession list for lab draw as well as performing Telehealth duties. Rooming patients to include:
Weight, Vital Signs, and reason for visit, resolve nursing clinical reminders Initiates and monitors Oxygen therapy as ordered Performs and transmits EKG's Administers only vaccinations and medications within scope Provides delegated procedures and treatments Assists with minor procedures, including obtaining and arranging necessary equipment, positioning patient, ensuring comfort and privacy. Monitors patient during procedure. Supports patient-driven care in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner Documents to meet applicable requirements/standards/policies and directives Completes medication refrigerator temperature checks Submits patient medication renewal requests to Providers via CPRS Completes simple dressing changes Checks expiration dates of medications and supplies Cleans and stocks rooms between patients Performs AED and oxygen checks Assumes responsibility for checking all instruments and equipment for needed repairs, maintenance, and replacement. Performs clerical duties to support the functions of the clinic not limited to answering phones, scanning, faxing, etc. Receives and directs patients and visitors and responds to routine inquiries Receives and processes telephone calls for team Perform delegated procedures and treatments Completes and initiates appropriate clinical reminders, consults, and alerts. Completes reminder call for upcoming appointments Utilizes CPRS Vista Imaging. Utilizes CPRS to document all clinical observations/information/patient education Identifies and report variances related to neurological signs, vital signs, and other parameters. Demonstrates understanding of age and population specific characteristics that affect health care needs of the Veteran. Interacts and communicates appropriately with patients and family members. Demonstrates professional behavior (i.e. respects others, collegiality, ability to accept constructive criticism), effective communication and interpersonal skills. Adheres to principles of infection control, safety and universal precautions. Possesses knowledge of and complies with proper handling and cleaning of reusable medical equipment regulations and requirements. Assist in orientation and competency validation of clinical staff Maintains patient confidentiality (electronic, written and/or verbal). Performs phlebotomy draws, centrifuges, prepares specimens to send to lab at main facility, monitors and maintains temperature of room and equipment. Assists in inventory of supplies throughout the laboratory and orders accordingly. Performs and maintains CAP surveys including documentation of results.Performs specimen testing using automated interfaced analyzers that are waived or moderately complex according to CLIA regulations. Conducts quality control procedures on equipment/products and maintains quality control reports and workload reports. Accessions/acknowledges the specimens using laboratory computer system or designated backup system and established guidelines. Prepares specimens for send out to reference labs. Processes specimens and selects appropriate procedures based on knowledge of the type of specimens, patient information, and resources available in the laboratory. Work Schedule:

(2) VHA employees who were converted to appointments under 38 U.S.C. 7401(3) in implementation of Public Law 98-160, enacted November 21, 1983, and for VHA employees converted to appointments under 38 U.S.C. 7405 in implementation of Public Law 99-576, enacted October 28, 1986; and for their future personnel actions under this authority. The waiver will not apply to persons appointed under 38 U.S.C. 7401(3) or 7405 after these conversions. (3) Individuals granted a license by a jurisdiction that does not require graduation from an approved school. See paragraph 4, section C. Licensure. Full, active, current and unrestricted licensure as a licensed practical or vocational nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or District of Columbia. An LPN /LVN who has or has ever had, any license(s) revoked, suspended, denied, restricted, limited, or issued/placed in a probationary status may be appointed only in accordance with the provisions in chapter 3, section B, paragraph 16 of this part. Licensed practical or vocational nurses appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in both spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d). This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. Mechanical patient lifts are provided. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Must complete annual Employee Health requirements, such as annual TB screening or testing, as a condition of employment.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
